How the Vanilla Ice Little Smiles event came to be

In a video posted to social media earlier this week, Vanilla Ice announced the all-day event in partnership with Little Smiles. World-famous recording artist Vanilla Ice is teaming up with Bronx House Pizza's Hammock location to host a children’s charity event this month. Bonjean slammed the trial as “blasphemously unfair,” claiming the prosecution also relied on “bad act evidence,” similar to the New York trial which saw three women testify before the jury with allegations that weren’t connected to the case being tried. LA Judge Lisa Lench later denied Weinstein’s request for a new trial as the former Hollywood producer maintained his innocence. With the New York case overturned on Thursday, Bonjean said her team is considering making a new plea to review the California conviction. Jennifer Bonjean, one of attorneys representing the disgraced Hollywood mogul, claimed that Weinstein did not get a fair trial in the Los Angeles case in 2023 in part because the jury believed he was fairly convicted in New York when he was sentenced to 23 years in New York 2020.

Once doors open, the event will last all day until the eatery’s 8 p.m.

Italian sausage with red sauce and mozzarella cheese. According to Brad Beam, owner of the Bronx House’s two Palm Coast restaurants and its St. Augustine location, whether dining in, ordering takeout or getting a slice delivered, the entirety of the day’s sales will support the Little Smiles charity to help children in need. Strips of breaded chicken topped with tomato sauce and mozzarella. Beam said Bronx House Pizza has long been passionate about giving back to the community, and has participated in various charity events over the years, including working with the Salvation Army in Daytona, local food pantries, elementary schools and homeless shelters. According to Beam, though the charity is based in south Florida, it prioritizes “using the money where it's being donated,” and has noted that the funds raised during the event will support Halifax Health pediatric units in Daytona Beach.

According to Beam, Vanilla Ice — "blown away" at the opportunity to be a part of such a great cause — will attend the event for several hours and hopes to introduce himself, take photos, and engage with the community. “Were going to try to get as many people to come in here, purchase some food and purchase some drinks so that we’re able to maximize how much were able to donate to Little Smiles,” Beam said, noting the restaurant’s fundraising goal of $20,000. Little Smiles Founder Chip Donohue and his family, among others with the charity, will attend the event, Beam tells me, in hopes of sharing the nonprofit's story and connecting with the local community.

FAST, FRESH DELIVERY

When the opportunity to give back to Little Smiles arose, Beam knew the restaurant couldn’t pass up the chance to help children in need within its own community. “(Vanilla Ice) and I were just talking one day and I asked, ‘What’s a big charity that’s important to you? ’… As soon as I asked him he had this smile, and I could tell as soon as he started telling me about (Little Smiles) that he was very passionate about it,” Beam said.

Fast, Fresh Delivery!!

“He loves this area, he loves being here and he loves our restaurant,” Beam said. Crispy on the outside, yet light and fluffy on the inside. These mini italian donut holes will become your new fave. A large tube of fresh pasta stuffed with a blend of soft cheese. Bread, topped with garlic & olive oil or butter, herb seasoning, baked to perfection.

“You hear a lot of people say ‘we’ll donate all of our proceeds,’ but proceeds, you’re still taking out the money that you spend on labor, on food costs, things like that. So, it’s still gracious, don't get me wrong, but we were like, let’s not do proceeds — we want to do sales,” Beam said. “Come see us on Sunday the 25th," he said in the video. "We’re doing a charity event here for Little Smiles; it helps out the terminally ill children, and we’re going to pack this place in, man. Chicken breast topped with tomato basil sauce, mozzarella and parmesan cheese with spaghetti or ziti. According to Beam, valet parking will be set up on the southside and northside entrances of restaurant to convenience customers. Those unable to attend but still hoping to donate can text BRONXPIZZA to or using the online QR-code and donation link that will be available during the event on Feb. 25.

New Prop Design Delivers More Power, Less Noise

new boat prop design

Furthermore, speaking to MBY, Boattest.com’s founder and president Jeff Hammond, confirmed it wasn’t just the performance data that astounded his two test captains but the transformation in the boat’s cruising refinement and handling. Both captains reported less vibration, quieter running and exceptional grip in turns. For the past 25 years, DesignTown USA has served our family of clients with the look, feel, and texture they envision.

The Best Way to Measure for a New Inboard Propeller Shaft

You generally want to find the comfort zone for props on your specific boat. Think of this as a 10-speed bike and you’re going downhill on the highest gear. Once the boat is loaded with people and gear, this method typically provides good all-around performance. Some boaters may have different performance goals such as better hole shot or faster top-end speed, which will require a change in the pitch and diameter. If you’re new to boating or don’t have a strong opinion on the type of speed and performance you’re getting out of the ride, then you might have the dealer recommend a prop or roll with what the boat manufacturer provides.

Design Town USA™ - LA's PrintshopCommercial Print & Design Services & Solutions

new boat prop design

Propeller noise can be somewhat addressed by placing rings of acoustic treatment around the circumference of a prop's path, which can also act as prop guards from a safety perspective. But these add parasitic mass, reducing battery life, and they can also catch the wind in outdoor situations, making the drone work harder to stay stable. The performance of the current propeller as well as the interaction between the propeller and hull is analysed by using computational fluid design (CFD). Sharrow Marine’s propeller is without question the most unique boat prop we’ve seen to date. Until we can sea trial one of these new Sharrow Propellers for ourselves we won’t know for sure whether the claims being made for it are as game changing as they seem. Although we have every confidence in boattest.com’s findings, they were only performed on one boat, and unlike Motor Boat & Yachting’s sea trials, its tests are paid for by the manufacturer.

Noticeably Less Vibration

One key issue with multicopter props is their annoying noise, which is often described as "whiny," because much of it sits right in the same frequency range as a baby's cries. Humans tend to be most sensitive to sounds between around 100 Hz and 5 kHz. This makes evolutionary sense; it's where we hear vowel sounds that are key to verbal communication. But it's a key issue if multicopters are going to fulfill their potential and fill our skies with fast, cheap, clean aerial delivery services. Residents and lawmakers don't want to add more annoying noises to urban life.

Sharrow says they have the interesting effect of vastly reducing a boat's tendency to pitch backward as it accelerates; instead, the entire boat rises out of the water while staying much more level. On top of all this, the effect on noise is absolutely profound, as you can see in the video below. "We came up with this initial concept of using a toroidal shape, this annular wing shape, to hopefully make a quieter propeller," Sebastian continues.

Over 12 years Experience in Custom Prop Work.

In looking at Sharrow Marine's design, advantages included drastically reduced outboard noise and faster, more efficient on-water performance. The new Sharrow CX incorporates the company's looped design into a contra-rotating propeller set. The sculptural new prop doubles up on blades with the promise of bringing Sharrow's efficiency-boosting, noise-cutting benefits to the already efficient world of contra-rotating outboards and sterndrives from top names like Volvo and Mercury.

The pitch of the propeller will dictate how far it moves with each thrust. "We have been actively designing propellers of 10 meters in diameter for many years and working collaboratively with shipping-container companies around the world to apply the technology for container ships," Sharrow said. Testing led by the company BoatTEST found that the Sharrow Propeller was up to 30% more efficient than a standard blade propeller.

All that to say, if you’re trying to get the most speed possible out of your boat/engine combo, you may want to discuss with your dealer the best propeller option relative to your situation. If you’re new to boating, you may not have expectations around what type of performance you should get out of your engine/propeller combo. That said, there are numerous variables behind which prop is right for your boat. The angle at which those blades are placed relative to the hub is called pitch.

What You Need to Know About Boat Propellers, Part 2: The Sharrow Propeller.

Specifically, tip cavitation and vortices have been eliminated or significantly reduced, transforming your entire boating experience,’ explains the company. Sharrow is already selling its looped props, CNC machined to fit a wide range of common outboard motors from most major manufacturers. The drawback here is price; they cost US$4,999 a pop regardless of which model, where a regular propeller might go for closer to US$500. Moving from water to air, a team of researchers at MIT Lincoln Laboratory proposed a toroidal propeller prototype among the 2022 winners of the R&D 100 awards.

Engines in different horsepower ranges will often require different sizes from one to another, as the propeller shafts and lower units vary in size. There are so many fluctuations and options that you could literally make the same exact boat faster just by adding a different propeller. The more pitch you are trying to turn, the more torque is required from the engine. I’ve got some tips on how to choose the correct propeller so that you can make an educated decision before launching the boat. All ACME props are designed, machined, and delivered from right here in the Midwest.

Rather than conventional blades, this machined prop has what appears to be a more-or-less continuous ribbon of steel or aluminum wrapping around a central hub. Strategies with such synergy include reshaping bows and hulls, maintaining a clean hull and undamaged propellers, and adding extra structures to decrease cavitation around the propeller. Some of those options are operational, and some involve retrofitting the ship.

Stainless is a stronger metal than aluminum, so this type of prop is tougher against damage. It also doesn’t flex, so it holds its shape in the water and can increase the speed depending on boat and engine type. The Sharrow MX™ Propeller is the winner of the prestigious 2020 Miami International Boat Show Innovation Award and also the winner of the 2022 Boating Marine Power Innovation Award from Boating Magazine.

The Marine Power Innovation (MPI) awards recognizes those manufacturers who advance the state-of-the-art in marine propulsion and, in so doing, change the recreational boating experience for the better. "You can improve your energy efficiency and reduce your underwater noise with the same kind of things." The high- and low-pressure regions meet along the edge of the loop, distributing the vortices more widely so that they dissipate faster and therefore more quietly. When a blade propeller spins in the air (like the one on the left in the above image), it generates regions of high and low pressure that meet at the blade's tip to create a vortex. In the age of the energy transition, these things must also be of extreme interest to anyone making electrified boats, where a 20% boost in range from a five-grand accessory would be an absolute no-brainer. Check out a fairly concise presentation from Sharrow in the video below.

Like with anything, if you take care of your propeller, it should last the lifetime of your boat. Props do not have an expiration date as long as they aren’t damaged from impacts with foreign objects. Aluminum is a softer and less expensive metal, so these props are usually more budget-friendly.

If you’re looking for more speed or want to explore different performance options, talk to your dealer about shopping for different propellers. The testing showed the Sharrow put the boat on plane quicker, was faster at all RPM settings, was more fuel efficient at all RPM settings, produced the highest top speed, and significantly cut prop noise and vibration. The Sharrow Propeller was invented by engineer Gregory Sharrow and developed by his company, Sharrow Engineering LLC, a Philadelphia-based nautical and aeronautical design firm.

'Farmhouse Fixer' Returns to a Home With an Extremely Dark Past for the Season 3 Premiere

the farm house

The structures were based on the classic colonial farmhouse's rectangular design and were often two-stories tall. Even better, they could easily be added on to with wings out the side or rear of the home to accommodate new family members or the next generation of families. Large long porches that beautifully connected the outdoors to the indoors was a standard feature that provided the residents with a place to relax in the shade. The original exterior colors for these houses were relatively limited and premixed in a choice of white, light green, pale yellow, light blue, and a few dark colors, notably red. When it comes to contemporary home trends, farmhouse style is a huge buzz word. But you may be surprised to learn that the roots of farmhouse architecture have humble beginnings in the modest rural houses built by American pioneers throughout the 1700s and 1800s.

Custom License Plates 20% OFF + SHIPS NEXT DAY!

car plate design

Digital license plates, which have been piloted in California since 2018, with just 175,000 participants, are now available to all of the state’s 27 million drivers, thanks to Assembly Bill 984. California only uses I, O, and Q in between two other letters, for example "1AQA000".[citation needed] A unique example of character use is Texas, which skips all vowels along with the letter Q on passenger plates. The process for obtaining a custom plate varies by state but typically involves submitting your desired plate combination and paying an additional fee during your vehicle registration renewal.

Alternately, a placard, which in some jurisdictions can be hung from the rear view mirror, may be issued; the placard has the advantage of being transferred from vehicle to vehicle. For various reasons related to visibility and readability, some states and territories exclude certain letters from use in their license plate serial formats. The most commonly skipped characters are I, O, and Q[citation needed], with some states using only one or two of the three while others will skip all three of these letters[citation needed]. Other states, such as Colorado, Georgia, and South Carolina have gradually adopted one or more of these letters over a course of years after previously skipping them in order to accommodate the demands of population growth and depletion of available serial combinations.

Establishing the first Black family in the area, he would invite his cousin Tabor to relocate where he founded the first Black-owned maintenance company in Venice. According to Sales, there are even more plans to inform visitors of the area’s rich history through QR codes placed around the walls of each unit. All US government plates have a fixed expiration of 8 years, 6 months after issuance. States may also provide commemorative plates as a standard issue, for example for a state's 100th or 125th anniversary. Many states have a "State of the Arts" plate, but Florida's might be the most vibrant.

Driver License or Identification Card Changes

Tractor-Trailers can order a company specific license plate with the company’s name at the bottom or a logo on the left hand side. In some jurisdictions, vehicle owners may also pay extra for specialty plates. With these, the plate serial is chosen by the licensing agency – as with regular plates – but the owners select a plate design that is different from the normal license plate. For example, an alumnus or student of a university or college might purchase a plate with the school's logo, or an outdoorsman might decide to pay extra for a plate depicting a nature scene. A portion of the extra cost of these license plates often ends up as a donation for a related school or non-profit organization.

Until the 1980s, diplomatic plates were issued by the state in which the consulate or embassy was located. Prior to 2019, California was the last U.S. state to not require the display of any form of temporary license plate on new vehicles. Some states use a distinctive color scheme to differentiate the plates from the regular issue. For example, in Virginia, state government license plates use the format "12-345S" and have a light blue background, while local government license plates use the format " L" and have a tan background.

Registrants provided their own license plates for display until 1914, when the state began to issue plates.[1] Plates are currently issued by the California Department of Motor Vehicles. Four jurisdictions in the United States use letters to designate a residence where a vehicle was registered. In the U.S. territory of Guam, the license plates use the first two letters that are coded by village of issuance, for example, "TM-1234" refers to a vehicle that was registered by a person who lives the village of Tamuning. Virgin Islands, a vehicle with a registration number beginning with C is registered in St. Croix, J in St. John, and T in St. Thomas. Our custom license plates are printed on .025 aluminum material, with the option to upgrade to a thicker and stronger .063 Aluminum material option. The size of our license plates is a standard 6”x12” inches to fit the mounts of license plates on most vehicles.

Other states and territories, such as California and Virginia, offer simpler schemes, often with a white background and little decoration. The digital plates will be able to display different emergency messages, such as if a vehicle is stolen, or if there’s a local Amber Alert. The plates will also have built-in tracking abilities to help locate stolen cars.

In Pennsylvania, the die used for the number "0" is different than the one used for the letter "O" since the state's number dies are taller and narrower than its letter dies. Pennsylvania issues a white on blue (blue on white on earlier plates, some still in use) plate for state-owned vehicles (PA prefix/suffix which carry the OFFICIAL USE legend), municipal (MG prefix or suffix) and vehicles that are owned by Penn State, which carry the STATE UNIVERSITY legend. State-owned and Penn State-owned vehicles are also issued front plates, as are press photographers, however, the press photographer plates are issued on the standard base and carry a PP prefix inside a large keystone.

Remember, the best license plate ideas are creative, concise, and appropriate. Take your time, brainstorm, and have fun with the process of making your car truly one-of-a-kind. Custom plates are a unique and fun way to advertise your business whether you are using them for a car dealership or auto shop or just putting your website on your vehicle to advertise on the go.

The United Parcel Service is the first such fleet operator to take advantage of this offering.[72] This kind of specialty plate can only be purchased by the owner of the fleet and is not considered a general issue plate. For example, Delaware is able to use six-digit all-numeric serials because of its low population. Other seven-character formats include Connecticut and Illinois, which use AB-12345, and Maryland, which uses 1AB2345. Our custom plates are painted and coated white for digital printing to ensure the colors in your design are vibrant, beautiful, and long-lasting.

In addition to "regular" passenger plates, all jurisdictions also provide plates for other types of vehicles that may only be roughly similar in design and layout. Additionally, there has been an increasing trend in the field of "specialty" plates to promote specific causes or interests. To keep this table as simple as possible, most of these alternate types of plates will not be noted.

TikTok Is Subject of E U. Inquiry Over Addictive Design The New York Times

addictive design

Adipose tissue in mammals play an important role in survival by preparing the body for periods of famine (29). From an evolutionary perspective, the increase in body fat prepared animals for times of food scarcity, in fact, those accumulating body fat had an advantage compared to those that did not (30). However, this occurred in times when humans had insecure food supply (hunter-gatherer) and could spend many days on a hypocaloric diet.

It's time we bridge the gap between feel-good Design & Ethics panels and the work we do everyday as digital product…

Both bills identified social media addiction as a legitimate problem, and one caused by corporations. Social media companies and their defenders have repeatedly rejected responsibility for the addictive nature of their offerings. Facebook, for example, has denied reports that Instagram use harmed teenage girls and pushed back forcefully against claims that its platform harms users.

days that rocked USC: How a derailed commencement brought ‘complete disaster’

When considering the association between FA and BMI, close to 20% were obese and little over 40% were underweight (248). Addictive mechanisms serve a homeostatic function so that if food is scarce one will seek it and binge when found. Additionally, those in the underweight category may be dieting or displaying restrained eating patterns which can increase reward sensitivity for food. The failure of human models of food addiction using YFAS to control for dieting behaviors is a shortcoming of this construct (discussed below). Other neurochemical similarities between drugs of abuse and sugar dependent rats have been observed. Behavioral sensitization is a phenomenon linked to several facets of drug dependence and consists on a long-lasting increase in locomotor activity following repeated administration of psychostimulants or opioids (204–206).

We will also look at how interfaces have changed over time and what this means for users. Regarding addictive design, social media companies like Facebook or Twitter can redesign their platforms by getting rid of the addictive features, such as the ‘like’ button and infinite scroll. Likewise, social media platforms may become addictive because they work like a game that never ends. Specifically, we’re referring to the infinite scroll feature—like the Facebook News Feed or Twitter timeline. The infinite scroll (as well as similar features like ‘auto refresh’) can easily give rise to “doomscrolling.” Doomscrolling refers to endlessly and mindlessly scrolling online, with no end in sight. America’s young people face a mental health crisis, and adults constantly debate how much to blame phones and social media.

addictive design

As mentioned, social media algorithms manipulate what people see online in order to keep them addicted to ‘liking’ and scrolling through nonstop ads and content. Hence, it’s not just the manipulative algorithms that are a problem but also the addictive design of social media. For instance, two examples of addictive design are the ‘like’ button and the infinite scroll. The nutrition transition theory is also supported by compelling evidence suggesting that a wide range of animals have also been gaining weight in recent years (25, 26). Other terms that support the “environmental theory of obesity” include “globesity” at the most distal levels, and the “neighborhood effect” at more proximal levels (27). Notwithstanding, the “neighborhood effect” has far-reaching social implications, given that the neighborhood where one lives is merely a proxy for socioeconomic status.

But the default mode network is just a set of brain regions that tend to be involved in internally focused thinking, such as contemplating your past or making a moral judgment, versus externally focused thinking such as playing chess or driving an unfamiliar route. So why the insistence from Haidt and others that smartphones dangerously rewire the brain? It stems from misunderstandings of research that I have encountered frequently as a neuroscientist studying emotional development, behavioral addictions and people’s reactions to media.

Considerable controversy exists with respect to sugar intake and obesity (266). There is general consensus indicating that sugar (sucrose, fructose) is not a direct cause of obesity (267, 268), however, other studies have linked sugar-sweetened beverages (SSB) to an increase in body weight in children and adults (269, 270). Several reasons are offered to explain this discrepancy, but somehow SSB appears to be a special case. First, it is possible that liquid calories are not compensated by a total decrease in energy intake. None of these studies have linked SSB to sugar addiction so we cannot adequately assess the direct impact of compulsive SSB consumption on body weight. The design legislation that’s still alive in the state Senate would require companies to implement common-sense privacy requirements such as stringent default settings and clear, concise terms of service.

How Product Developers Keep Our Eyeballs Glued to Their Apps

We cannot discard FA because not all obese people are food-addicted and not all food-addicted are obese (251–253). A recent systematic review and meta-analysis of human studies “support that altered general reward-related decision making is a salient neuropsychological factor across eating and weight disorders in adulthood” (255). Taken together, the FA perspective suggests that biochemical changes and genetic predisposition to addiction can lead to excess food consumption independent of social factors.

Additionally, supporting research and development in this area will help ensure that humane design principles are continually being improved upon. Ultimately, by working together we can help make the world a better place for everyone through humane design. Humane design is a term that is used to describe the process of designing products and services that address the needs of all users, including those with special needs or who may be marginalized. The goal of humane design is to create products and services that are inclusive and accessible to everyone. When designing for empathy, designers consider the user’s emotional state and try to understand how their product or service can make a difference in their life. Inclusive design takes into account the user’s physical, cognitive, and social abilities when designing products and services.

The gateway hypothesis claims that legal drugs (alcohol or nicotine) precedes consumption of cannabinoids, and cannabinoids precede other illicit drugs (218). In animal models of drug abuse this phenomenon appears to be linked to cross-sensitization and instead of increasing locomotor activity it increases the intake of another drug (“consummatory cross-sensitization”) (168). For instance, exposure to cannabis in young adult rats enhanced opiate intake when adults (219). In a separate experiment, pre-exposure of ethanol enhanced cocaine self-administration in adult mice (220, 221). They may seem to beckon you and gnaw at you and even bark at you to open that app BUT you don’t need to follow their call.

By taking these factors into account when designing products, it is possible to create more user-friendly items that are still enjoyable and satisfying to use. European Union regulators on Monday opened an investigation into TikTok over potential breaches of online content rules aimed at protecting children, saying the popular social media platform’s “addictive design” risked exposing young people to harmful content. People are more willing than ever before to spend money on things that don’t come with these negative effects. Most digital platforms, when looking to establish credibility, turn to some measure of “social proof”, whereby they utilise phenomena where users can be influenced and motivated by the desires, actions, and behaviour of other people.

Former Google design ethicist Tristan Harris who recently co-founded the Center for Humane Technology raises that question. He has become one of the most outspoken critics of how devices are intentionally made to hook users at the cost of their time and comfort. Some of his alternative designs illustrate what a different app ecosystem could look like — where health and time are prioritized over constant engagement. The company was fined roughly $370 million in September for having weak safeguards to protect the personal information of children using the platform. Policymakers in the United States have also been wrestling with how to regulate the platform for harmful content and data privacy — concerns amplified by TikTok’s links to China.

“It literally is a point now where I think we have created tools that are ripping apart the social fabric of how society works. I would encourage all of you, as the future leaders of the world to really internalize how important this is. If you feed the beast, that beast will destroy you.” The fact that this criticism comes from a high-level tech insider makes it that much more shocking. Instead of focusing on addictive design and dark patterns, perhaps creating more value, attracting more customers, and everything else that we’ve discussed in this article can be a better approach to generating revenue. I’m not convinced that addictive design is a bigger moneymaker than ethical design anyway, at least not in today’s society where people don’t hesitate to boycott businesses that treat people badly. I suppose we all have a responsibility to make digital products healthier to use, don’t we?

I imagine most of us have had the frustration of thinking that we are activating one burner of the stove, say the left front, only to find that another burner, the back right, has actually heated. It turns out that every stove manufacturer has a slightly different way of aligning the knobs to the burners, and this design problem is surprisingly complex. Most of the time, the mismatch between knobs and burners simply causes frustration, but it can cause a fire in some cases, and it only takes a minute or two for a house fire to reach out-of-control levels. Robinson also discusses a plane crash in Colombia that was caused by a glitch in the autopilot software and other instances of design problems leading to injury and death, like the ignition switch failures in GM cars back in 2015. Besides, there will be rules in place eventually to prevent businesses from manipulating and exploiting customers using addictive design patterns.

For apps and websites, a good example is an endless supply of content to consume (or just doom scroll). What’s worse is that they escape these negative feelings by retreating even further into their addiction — it’s a vicious cycle that people often feel powerless to break, and the issue isn’t just that businesses exploit this behavior but cultivate it. Points can be acquired through playing a game or using an app in a variety of ways, such as finishing levels, sharing content, or inviting friends. These points may then be exchanged for virtual products like premium content or exclusive features. In recent years, this criticism has reached a boiling point, with many people calling for stricter regulation of these companies. While there is truth to the claims made against them, it’s important to understand the history and trajectory of these companies to make an informed judgment.

There appear to be two camps, one that has determined the driving force is addiction while the other asserting that obsessive anxiety is what makes us return to our devices constantly all day (and night). Addiction and obsession are different processes according to the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders. In fact, smartphone or Internet addiction or obsession are not even in the manual although Internet gaming disorder was placed in the appendix of the latest version as warranting further study meaning with more research it may appear in the next version. Anxiety certainly appears in the DSM in many guises but nothing is said relating it to the Internet or smartphone or tiny red dots. In the literature, it is often referred to as FOMO—fear of missing out—or nomophobia—fear of being without your smartphone or being unable to use it. The Commission also said it’s minded to impose interim measures that could force the company to suspend access to the TikTok Lite app in the EU while it investigates concerns the app poses mental health risks to users.

Tour Highlights

The weathe...r cooperated and we also had a beautiful sunset. All of the food was picture perfect and tasty but smaller portions than I expected and it was certainly the smallest maine lobster I have ever seen. The upstairs on the ship was set up like a very nice restaurant, white tablecloths and the wait staff were in black suits - very fancy. The wait staff was polite and as professional as could be but as far as I could tell there was only one waiter for the entire top section this made getting drinks a bit slow. The jazz music was mostly just piano and was too loud for the room the piano had a microphone set up and it seems like it could have been turned down a notch. I shouldn't have to strain to hear the person I'm eating with who it just across the table, the couple next to us made the same comment about the volume.

Enjoy a relaxing live jazz performance during dinner, and afterwards, immerse yourself in the rhythm of Hawaiian favorites and captivating dances from across Polynesia. Some comments state that passengers in the affected area were moved to different staterooms, the deck smelled like sewage, and that clothes were sent to the laundry, but these reports are not confirmed. The incident apparently happened in the early hours of October 17, 2023, the first night of a 4-night cruise out of Long Beach, California. The ship had departed Long Beach the evening before and would visit Catalina Island on October 17, followed by Ensenada, Mexico on October 18. After a day at sea, Carnival Radiance returned to Long Beach on Friday, October 20. Footage filmed by passengers on board of the Royal Caribbean's Voyager of the Seas shows flooded balconies and sunbeds piled up on the deck. The website report stated there were no injuries, but passenger space on Deck 2 also experienced flooded hallways and staterooms.

MIAMI — The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is investigating more cruise ships due to new cases of COVID-19 as the omicron variant drives extremely high infection levels in the industry hub of Florida. Carnival Cruise Line's Carnival Horizon cruise ship is shown docked at PortMiami in April. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is investigating more cruise ships due to new COVID-19 cases aboard. These strong winds are driving rain and sea spray into the ship, flooding the outside deck and the water then flows through exterior doors on Deck 12 and into the hall.

After a major makeover, the cruise line renamed what was the Carnival Destiny to Carnival Sunshine in 2013. By dinner time, public decks had been closed off, and plates and cups were flying off the buffet areas, he recalled. The entity said it does not assume liability for vehicles or personal property left in the passenger parking areas. "We were surrounded by lightning and the ship took a huge hit by a wave and sounded like it split in two," Tutrone tweeted.

Tartus is an important base, providing the Russian Navy with a year-round, sanctions-free haven in the Mediterranean. Royal Caribbean Cruises also called off its Spectrum of the Seas cruise that was to leave Jan. 6 after nine passengers on an earlier sailing were exposed to Covid. Florida hit a new record for daily cases on Tuesday with 46,900 new cases in a day.

On May 27, a cruise ship sailed into a fierce storm off the coast of South Carolina, resulting in flooding and the evacuation of passengers. Videos posted by passengers showed flooded hallways, damaged pipes, and toppled doors as the Carnival Sunshine cruise ship prepared to dock in Charleston. Many passengers endured a harrowing journey, with reports of illness and crew members being ordered to evacuate their quarters, Daily Mail reported on May 28. Passengers aboard the Carnival Sunshine described shattered glass, water pouring into rooms and hallways, the ship pitching about and a lack of communication from cruise staff.

Before returning to port in Tampa on April 25, the ship is scheduled to stop in Cozumel, Mexico on April 23. The small wooden boat was in visibly poor condition, fitted with a makeshift sail and crowded with passengers, video shared with Fox 13 shows. None of the ships so far appear to have so many cases that they would overwhelm medical resources on board and require a return to port. And the CDC did not say it would adopt any changes, adding it still had plans to allow for the expiration of a set of rules that cruises must follow to sail during the pandemic.

Passengers aboard the Carnival Sunrise described water pouring into their rooms and hallways, shattered glass, the ship bouncing about and a lack of communication from cruise ship staff. When passengers disembarked and arrived at the flooded cruise terminal parking lot, they discovered their vehicles damaged with saltwater, if not totally ruined. In a statement to WCIV, a Carnival spokesperson said that “the weather and rough seas on Saturday” impacted the ship’s return to Charleston. Passenger Sharon Tutrone, a professor at Coastal Carolina University, tweeted Friday that the ship was rocking.

The footage also shows sunbeds piled up on the deck after being tossed around in the powerful storm. Travis Hair, a passenger on the Royal Caribbean vessel, filmed as the balcony of his room on the Voyager Of The Seas was swamped. Saturday (though Cox and her partner did go back upstairs briefly to retrieve their life jackets).

Displays tipped over in retail stores, and in the ship’s casino, slot machines tipped and fell. The storm’s intensity created onboard flooding, furniture damage, glass breakage, and other impacts, but fortunately, no severe injuries were reported and the ship returned to Galveston as scheduled. Assembly work for China’s second, large domestically-built cruise ship began on Saturday, April 20 at the Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding yard. Part of China’s goal of “mass and serial construction” of large cruise ships, the project is also demonstrative of the country’s systematic approach to developing its shipbuilding skills.

The 90,090-gross-ton, Radiance-class Serenade of the Seas actually has 13 total decks (only 12 are accessible to guests), and no other areas of the ship have reported problems. "The crew from Deck 0-4 evacuated to the theater, and anywhere they could rest… the crew bar destroyed." The National Hurricane Center warned of a non-tropical area of low pressure off the Florida coast of Friday that was expected to head toward the Carolinas over the weekend. Meteorologists said that there would be gusty winds, dangerous surf and strong rip currents along portions of the U.S.’s southeastern coast through Sunday. Passengers were informed the ship’s arrival to the port was delayed due to the “excessive flooding,” but not that there was anything to prepare for, Herold said. Carnival suggested passengers contact the proper parking authorities while making clear the parking lot was not a company facility.

The captain came to speak with Cox and other guests holed up in the ship’s Liquid Lounge. He informed them that the vessel had taken on water and that bad weather had changed their route, though Cox said the captain did not get specific. Cox and her family did not hear any other official updates from the line, but the crew distributed bottled water and a small number of blankets to passengers.

A makeshift plastic curtain has also put in place to help block the area from additional water spray. The first video is just six seconds long and was posted in mid-October, showing the massive water accumulation in the hallway. That brief video already has more than 107,000 likes and more than 7,300 comments – many of which are making joking Titanic references.

Two new videos have been flooding – pun intended – social media showing soaked floors and the raining ceiling aboard what is reported to be Carnival Radiance. There is no indication at all of any structural issues with the ship, nor are there any hull breaches or other emergency issues. This flooding – while startling – is simply a result of poor weather, and can happen onboard any cruise ship anywhere in the world. Crew Center, a cruise ship information site, posted a video on Twitter showing a flooded hallway, torn-off doors and other debris and destruction on board. Passengers on the ship said that things got worse overnight on Friday and into Saturday while the crew kept quiet about what was going on.
